Chicago Martyrs

The Chicago Martyrs were a group of seven Irish-American labor activists who died during the Haymarket Riot on May 4, 1886, in Chicago. They were accused of throwing a bomb at police during a labor protest advocating for better working conditions and an eight-hour workday. Although their direct involvement was unclear, eight men were convicted, and four were executed, turning them into symbols of the fight for workers' rights and social justice. Their sacrifice is remembered as a pivotal moment in the history of labor movements and workers’ advocacy in the United States.
