Chiari Malformation

Chiari Malformation is a condition where part of the brain called the cerebellar tonsils extends downward into the spinal canal through the opening at the base of the skull. This abnormal placement can disrupt the flow of cerebrospinal fluid and put pressure on the brain and spinal cord, leading to symptoms such as headaches, neck pain, dizziness, coordination problems, and sometimes vision or swallowing difficulties. It can be present at birth or develop over time, and severity varies. Treatments range from monitoring to surgical procedures to relieve pressure and restore normal fluid flow.
