Chess Ratings
Chess ratings are numerical scores that reflect a player's skill level based on their game results against other rated players. When you win against higher-rated opponents, your rating increases more; losing to lower-rated opponents causes a bigger decrease. Conversely, results against similarly rated players cause smaller adjustments. Ratings are dynamic and update after each game, providing an ongoing measure of relative strength. They help players find suitable opponents and track progress over time. Common systems include FIDE for international chess and Elo ratings, which are widely used to maintain standardized, comparable skill assessments globally.
