Chess notation

Chess notation is a system for recording and communicating moves made during a game. Each square on the 8x8 board has a unique coordinate, combining a letter (a-h) for columns and a number (1-8) for rows. Moves are written by indicating the piece (if not a pawn) and the destination square, for example, "Nf3" means a knight moves to f3. Captures are shown with an "x," like "Bxe6." Special moves include "O-O" for kingside castling and "en passant" captures. This standardized system allows players to review, analyze, and share games clearly and accurately.
