Cherokee Language
Cherokee is an indigenous language spoken by the Cherokee Nation, primarily in parts of Oklahoma and North Carolina. It belongs to the Southern Iroquoian language family and has a unique syllabary, a writing system created by Sequoyah in the early 19th century, which simplifies reading and writing. Cherokee features complex verb structures and tonal qualities, making it rich and expressive. Although its number of speakers has declined, revitalization efforts—including education programs and digital resources—are helping to preserve this culturally significant language for future generations.
