Cherenkov telescopes
Cherenkov telescopes are specialized tools used to observe high-energy cosmic particles, such as gamma rays, from space. When these energetic particles enter Earth's atmosphere, they create a faint, bluish light called Cherenkov radiation. The telescopes detect this brief flash of light using large mirrors and sensitive cameras. By analyzing these signals, scientists can learn about distant cosmic phenomena like black holes or supernovae. Essentially, Cherenkov telescopes act as Earth's eyes for observing the universe's most energetic and distant events indirectly through the light they produce in the atmosphere.
