Cherax destructor (Yabby)

Cherax destructor, commonly known as the Yabby, is a freshwater crayfish native to Australia. It has a robust body with large claws, and typically exhibits a dark blue or greenish coloration. Yabbies prefer still or slow-moving waters like ponds, rivers, and streams. They are omnivores, feeding on plants, small animals, and organic debris. Yabbies are important ecologically, helping control algae and detritus, and are also farmed for food and the aquarium trade. They are resilient creatures, capable of surviving in varying conditions, but can become invasive outside their native habitat if introduced into new environments.
