Chemical inhibition refers to the process where a substance, called an inhibitor, reduces or halts the activity of an enzyme or biological molecule. Enzymes are proteins that facilitate chemical reactions in the body. An inhibitor interacts with the enzyme to prevent it from functioning normally, either by binding to its active site or altering its shape. This mechanism is vital in regulating biochemical pathways, controlling disease progression, and developing medications. In essence, chemical inhibition is a way to modulate biological activity by intentionally interfering with specific chemical processes.
