Chechen separatism

Chechen separatism refers to the desire of some Chechen people to gain independence from Russia. Chechnya, a region in the North Caucasus, has a history of resisting Russian control, partly due to its distinct language, culture, and religion. Conflicts erupted in the 1990s after the Soviet Union collapsed, as Chechens aimed to establish an independent nation. Russia responded with military force, leading to brutal wars. Today, while Chechnya is officially part of Russia, underlying tensions and some calls for independence persist, driven by the desire to preserve their identity and autonomy.
