Charlotte Forten

Charlotte Forten was a 19th-century African American writer, teacher, and abolitionist dedicated to fighting slavery and promoting education for Black people. Born in 1837 into a prominent abolitionist family, she used her writing and activism to advocate for racial equality. During the Civil War, she worked as a teacher for formerly enslaved individuals in the South. Forten's work helped advance the cause of civil rights and education, and she is remembered as a pioneering voice in African American history.
