Charles X

Charles X was the king of France from 1824 to 1830, representing a return to conservative monarchy after Napoleon's defeat. He believed in strong royal authority and traditionally valued the powers of the monarchy over elected officials. His attempts to restore absolute monarchy and revoke some freedoms led to widespread unrest. This unrest culminated in the July Revolution of 1830, which forced him to abdicate and flee France. His reign is seen as an unsuccessful effort to restore old monarchic privileges in a changing France that was moving toward more liberal ideas.
