Charles T. Jackson was a 19th-century American chemist and geologist known for his work in mineralogy and science. He made significant contributions to studying rocks, minerals, and the Earth's composition. Jackson was also involved in early investigations of ether for anesthesia. Although he is sometimes remembered for his controversial claim to have discovered an early form of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) used for medical purposes, his primary recognition comes from his scientific research and teaching in geology and chemistry.
