Charles P. Rettig is an American attorney and the former Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), a position he held from 2018 to 2022. As head of the IRS, he was responsible for overseeing tax collection and enforcement, and ensuring taxpayer compliance. Rettig also aimed to modernize the agency’s technology and improve taxpayer services. Before leading the IRS, he had a long career in taxation law and served as president of the American College of Tax Counsel. His work focused on balancing effective tax administration with fair treatment for taxpayers.
