Charles of France (Charles of Valois)
Charles of Valois (1270–1325) was a French prince, the son of King Philip III of France. He played a significant role in the politics of the late 13th and early 14th centuries. Charles is known for his ambitions to expand French influence, notably through his claim to the title of King of Sicily. He was also instrumental in the early stages of the French monarchy's efforts to consolidate power. His lineage included notable descendants, and he helped lay the groundwork for the later Valois dynasty, which ruled France during the Hundred Years' War.
