Charles M. Thurmond

Charles M. Thurmond was an American lawyer, judge, and politician who served as a U.S. Senator from South Carolina from 1954 to 1960. A member of the Democratic Party, he was known for his conservative views during the Civil Rights era. Thurmond previously served as the governor of South Carolina from 1947 to 1951 and as a judge on the South Carolina Supreme Court. Throughout his career, he was a prominent figure in Southern politics, often advocating for states’ rights and resisting federal efforts to enforce civil rights legislation.
