Charles IX (King of France)

Charles IX was the King of France from 1560 to 1574, a member of the Valois dynasty. His reign was marked by religious conflict between Catholics and Huguenots (French Protestants). Despite his young age, he faced intense pressure from advisors and nobles. One of the most infamous events was the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre in 1572, when thousands of Huguenots were killed. Charles’s health was often fragile, and he struggled to lead effectively during turbulent times. His reign contributed to ongoing religious wars that eventually shaped France’s history and religious landscape.
