Charles IV of Sweden

Charles IV of Sweden, also known as Charles XIII of Sweden, was a king who reigned from 1809 to 1818. He became king after the abdication of his predecessor and was the last monarch from the younger dynasty, the House of Holstein-Gottorp. His reign was marked by political reform and efforts to modernize Sweden amidst changing European alliances. Although he had limited personal power, his rule helped stabilize the nation and set the stage for future reforms. He also became King Charles XIV John of Sweden and Norway through his succession, embodying a period of transition for the Scandinavian kingdoms.
