Charles I of Austria, also known as Charles IV of Hungary, was the last emperor of Austria-Hungary, reigning from 1916 until 1918. His leadership occurred during World War I, a time of intense global conflict that led to the empire's collapse. Despite his efforts to preserve his realm, the war's devastation and internal pressures caused its dissolution. Following the war, he renounced participation in politics and was exiled, living in exile until his death in 1922. He is remembered as a monarch who faced immense challenges amid a period of geopolitical upheaval.
