Charles I (Karl I of Austria)
Charles I of Austria, also known as Karl I, was the last emperor of Austria and king of Hungary, ruling from 1916 until the Austro-Hungarian Empire's collapse at the end of World War I in 1918. He sought to restore stability and peace but faced internal political challenges and the upheaval of war. After resigning, he was exiled and later beatified by the Catholic Church. His reign marked the end of centuries of imperial rule in Central Europe, transitioning the region toward new republics and nations.
