Charles I, Duke of Orléans (1394–1465), was a French noble and a notable poet of the late Middle Ages. Originally a prince and a high-ranking noble, he became renowned for his literary talent, especially his sonnets. He was captured during the Hundred Years’ War and spent 25 years as a prisoner in England, during which he composed many of his poetic works. His writings are celebrated for their lyrical beauty and insight into medieval court life, influencing future generations of poets across Europe.
