Charles Huggins
Charles Huggins was a pioneering American physician and scientist who transformed cancer treatment through his research on hormonal therapy. He discovered that prostate cancer growth is influenced by testosterone and showed that reducing testosterone levels could slow or stop cancer progression. This groundbreaking work led to the development of hormone therapy, providing a targeted treatment option for prostate cancer patients. Huggins’ discoveries earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1966 and fundamentally changed how cancers are approached through understanding their hormonal dependencies.
