Charles Emmanuel IV of Sardinia
Charles Emmanuel IV of Sardinia was a monarch who ruled the Kingdom of Sardinia from 1796 to 1802. He was part of the Savoy family and became king after his father’s death. His reign was marked by the turmoil of the Napoleonic Wars, and he faced significant political challenges. In 1802, he abdicated the throne and resigned to become a Benedictine monk, preferring a religious life over ruling. He spent the rest of his life in exile in France, and his decision to abdicate helped shape the future of the Sardinian state and its relationships within Italy.
