
Charles Ellet Jr.
Charles Ellet Jr. (1810-1862) was an American civil engineer and inventor, best known for his work in bridge design and his pioneering role in the development of aerial cableways. He designed the famous „Ellet's Bridge“ across the Ohio River and contributed to the engineering of the James River and Kanawha Canal. Ellet was also involved in the early use of iron in construction, which advanced bridge technology. Additionally, he played a significant role as a civil engineer during the American Civil War, where he helped improve the Union's infrastructure and logistics. His contributions laid the groundwork for modern engineering practices.
