
Charles Eastman (Ohiyesa)
Charles Eastman, also known as Ohiyesa, was a Native American from the Dakota Sioux tribe, born in 1858. He was a scholar, doctor, and writer who dedicated his life to bridging Indigenous and Western cultures. Eastman was among the first Native Americans to graduate from a university and became a prominent advocate for Native rights, education, and cultural preservation. His work aimed to improve understanding between different communities and to share the rich history and values of his people with the wider world through books and public speaking.
