
Charles E. Hughes
Charles E. Hughes was an influential American lawyer, politician, and statesman who served as the 11th Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court (1930–1941) and as the 36th U.S. Secretary of State (1921–1925). He is known for his leadership in legal matters, efforts to uphold constitutional principles, and his role in shaping U.S. foreign policy during the early 20th century. Hughes was also the Republican presidential candidate in 1916 and 1920, narrowly losing in 1916 and losing to Warren G. Harding in 1920.
