Charles A. Eastman
Charles A. Eastman, also known as Ohiyesa, was a Native American doctor, writer, and reformer born in 1858. A member of the Santee Dakota tribe, he became one of the first Native Americans to earn a medical degree, dedicating his life to improving healthcare and education for indigenous peoples. Eastman also worked to preserve Native culture and history, writing books and advocating for Native rights. His efforts helped bridge understanding between Native communities and the broader American society during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
