Charismatic and Pentecostal movements both emphasize the active presence of the Holy Spirit, especially through speaking in tongues, healing, and prophecy. Pentecostalism, which began in the early 20th century, is a distinct Christian denomination with formal doctrines and organizational structures, often emphasizing initial baptism in the Holy Spirit. Charismatic Christianity, emerging later within various mainstream churches, shares similar spiritual gifts but tends to be more flexible and integrated into existing denominational settings. Essentially, Pentecostals are a specific group within Christianity, while Charismatics are broader, encompassing believers across many different denominations who emphasize these spiritual experiences.
