Chantrelles

Chantrelles, also known as hen of the woods, oglike mushrooms, belong to the Pleurotus genus. They are edible fungi prized for their tender texture and rich, nutty flavor. They grow in large, bracket-like clusters on decayed hardwood trees, especially oaks. Hunt for them in late summer and fall, usually in wooded areas. When collected properly, they are a delicious addition to many dishes. However, proper identification is crucial since some lookalike mushrooms can be toxic. Chantrelles are valued both culinarly and ecologically, as they play a role in breaking down dead wood and recycling nutrients in forests.
