Chandra (Chandra X-ray Observatory)
The Chandra X-ray Observatory is a space telescope launched by NASA in 1999 to study the universe in X-ray wavelengths. Unlike visible light telescopes, Chandra detects high-energy X-rays emitted by extremely hot and energetic objects, such as black holes, neutron stars, supernova remnants, and galaxy clusters. Operating above Earth's atmosphere—which absorbs X-rays—Chandra provides detailed images and data that help scientists understand cosmic phenomena and the extreme environments in the universe. Its observations have advanced knowledge of black hole growth, galaxy formation, and the behavior of matter under intense conditions.
