Chalcedon

The Council of Chalcedon, held in 451 AD, was a major church meeting that clarified key beliefs about Jesus Christ. It affirmed that Jesus is both fully divine and fully human—two complete natures in one person—without blending or separating them. This declaration aimed to settle disagreements and unify Christian doctrine. The council’s statement, known as the Chalcedonian Definition, remains a foundational point for many Christian denominations, helping to distinguish mainstream belief from other interpretations that viewed Jesus differently. Essentially, Chalcedon helped define how Christians understand the nature of Christ’s divine and human qualities.
