Chacoan Society

The Chacoan Society was a sophisticated civilization that thrived between A.D. 900 and 1150 in what is now the southwestern United States. They built impressive, multi-story sandstone structures called Great Houses, along with extensive roads and kivas (ceremonial chambers). Their society was organized with complex social and political systems, likely centered around ceremonial, economic, and skilled labor activities. The Chacoans engaged in widespread trade, resource management, and cultural practices that linked communities over a large region, reflecting a highly engineered and interconnected society that influenced the southwestern landscape and culture for centuries.
