CGRO (Compton Gamma Ray Observatory)

The Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO) was a space telescope launched in 1991 to study high-energy gamma rays from cosmic sources like black holes, pulsars, and supernovae. It used specialized instruments to detect and analyze gamma rays that cannot reach Earth’s surface due to our atmosphere. By observing these energetic signals, CGRO helped scientists understand extreme astrophysical processes and the extreme environments in the universe. It operated for over nine years, significantly advancing knowledge of high-energy phenomena, before being decommissioned in 2000.
