Cessationism

Cessationism is the belief that certain spiritual gifts, such as miracles, prophecy, and speaking in tongues, were temporary and provided for the early Christian church. Cessationists hold that these extraordinary gifts diminished after the first century, once the foundational teachings of Christianity were established and the Bible was completed. They argue that modern claims of these gifts are not biblically supported, and that the church now relies on the Bible and natural means for spiritual growth and guidance. This view contrasts with continuationism, which believes these gifts persist today.
