Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN)

Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is a term used to describe abnormal changes in the cells on the surface of the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus. These changes are often caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. CIN is classified into grades (1 to 3) based on how much the cells have changed, with CIN 1 being mild and CIN 3 being more severe. While CIN itself is not cancer, high-grade changes (CIN 2 and 3) can potentially progress to cervical cancer if left untreated. Regular screening helps detect and manage CIN early.
