Cerebrospinal Fluid Shunt

A cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) shunt is a medical device that helps regulate the flow of CSF, the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. When CSF builds up excessively, it can cause increased pressure and harm brain tissues, a condition called hydrocephalus. The shunt diverts the excess fluid from inside the skull to another part of the body, usually the abdomen, where it can be absorbed. This allows for normal pressure inside the skull, relieving symptoms like headaches, nausea, and vision problems, and helps maintain healthy brain function.
