Cerebrosides

Cerebrosides are a type of lipid, or fat molecule, that are important components of nerve cell membranes, especially in the brain and nervous system. They consist of a sugar molecule attached to a fat chain called ceramide. Cerebrosides help maintain the structure of nerve cells and are involved in cell recognition and communication. They are part of a larger group called glycosphingolipids, which play essential roles in neural function. Proper levels of cerebrosides are vital for healthy nerve transmission, and their imbalance can be associated with certain neurological diseases.
