Cerebral Shunt
A cerebral shunt is a medical device that helps drain excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the brain to another part of the body, usually the abdomen, to relieve pressure caused by conditions like hydrocephalus. It consists of a long tube with a pressure-regulating valve that redirects fluid away from the brain, preventing swelling and damage. The shunt is surgically placed, and while it often improves symptoms, it may require ongoing monitoring or adjustments to prevent complications such as infections or blockages.
