Central Line

The central line, also known as a central venous catheter, is a flexible tube inserted into a large vein, typically in the neck, chest, or groin. It provides a direct access point to the bloodstream for administering medications, fluids, nutrients, or drawing blood for tests. Because it reaches a large blood vessel near the heart, it allows rapid delivery of treatments and continuous monitoring, especially in critically ill patients. The procedure is performed carefully by trained healthcare providers to minimize risks such as infections or complications.
