Central Asia Institute

The Central Asia Institute (CAI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education, especially for girls and women, in the remote and underserved regions of Central Asia, including Afghanistan and Pakistan. Founded in 1996 by Greg Mortenson and others, CAI’s efforts focus on building schools, supporting local educators, and fostering community development to improve quality of life. The organization believes that education is key to stability, peace, and economic growth in these areas, empowering local communities through sustainable, culturally respectful initiatives.
