CENTO
CENTO, or the Central Treaty Organization, was a military alliance established in 1955 to promote cooperation among Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, and the UK (later replaced by the US and others). Its main goal was to contain the spread of communism during the Cold War by providing collective security and fostering political and military collaboration. CENTO aimed to strengthen regional stability, counter Soviet influence, and support member nations' defense capabilities. It was dissolved in 1979 after Iran's revolution and changing geopolitical priorities, but it played a key role in shaping Cold War alliances in the Middle East and South Asia.
