Centers for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER)

The Centers for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) is a division within the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) responsible for overseeing the safety, effectiveness, and quality of drugs used in the country. CDER reviews new medicines before they can be sold, monitors existing drugs for safety issues, and ensures manufacturing standards are met. Their goal is to protect public health by making sure medications are safe, effective, and of high quality. In essence, CDER acts as a steward for drug safety from development through post-market monitoring.
