Cemetery Ridge
Cemetery Ridge was a key defensive position during the Battle of Gettysburg in the American Civil War, fought in 1863. Located on high ground south of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, it served as the main Union line. The ridge stretched about a mile and was heavily fortified with trenches and artillery. On July 3, 1863, it was the site of a crucial battle known as Pickett’s Charge, where Confederate soldiers assaulting the ridge suffered heavy losses. The Union forces’ successful defense here marked a turning point in the war, preventing the Confederates from advancing north and boosting Union morale.
