Cellular Aging
Cellular aging refers to the gradual decline in cell function and structure over time, which contributes to the overall aging of the body. As cells age, they accumulate damage from factors like oxidative stress and lost ability to repair themselves efficiently. This leads to reduced regeneration, decreased elasticity, and increased vulnerability to disease. Key processes involved include shortening of telomeres (protective DNA caps), which limits cell division, and mitochondrial dysfunction, reducing energy production. Together, these changes impair tissue maintenance and renewal, ultimately playing a significant role in the physical signs and health decline associated with aging.
