CD40
CD40 is a protein found on the surface of certain immune cells, like B cells and some others. It acts as a communication receptor, helping these cells interact with other immune cells when the body detects a threat, such as an infection or cancer. When CD40 binds to its partner, called CD40L (found on T cells), it triggers immune responses, including cell activation and antibody production. This process is essential for a robust immune defense, coordination among immune cells, and immune system regulation. Abnormal CD40 activity can be involved in immune disorders or certain cancers.
