Cawnpore Mutiny

The Cawnpore Mutiny occurred in 1857 during the Indian Rebellion, when Indian soldiers in the British East India Company's army rebelled against British officers in Cawnpore (Kanpur). Tensions arose from cultural disrespect, poor treatment, and harsh policies. The rebellion escalated as the soldiers took control, and during a siege, British women and children were trapped and later killed or taken hostage. After the British regained control, they retaliated fiercely. The incident intensified anti-British feelings across India, marking a major turning point in India’s struggle for independence.
