Caves of the Buddhas
The Caves of the Buddhas, also known as the Mogao Caves or Dunhuang Caves, are a complex of over 700 ancient Buddhist cave temples in northwestern China. Carved between the 4th and 14th centuries, they contain stunning murals, sculptures, and manuscripts that reflect the artistic, religious, and cultural exchanges along the Silk Road. These caves served as religious sites, monasteries, and repositories of Buddhist teachings, offering valuable insights into the history of Buddhism and medieval Chinese civilization. Today, they are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, celebrated for their artistic and historical significance.
