CATT study

The CATT (Creatinine And Tetracycline Test) study was a research project comparing two treatment options for bacterial eye infections called trachoma. It evaluated whether azithromycin (an antibiotic) alone was just as effective as azithromycin given with another antibiotic called topical tetracycline ointment. The goal was to see if a single-dose antibiotic treatment could effectively control the infection, simplifying treatment protocols and improving compliance. The study found that oral azithromycin alone was generally as effective as the combined approach, which has influenced treatment guidelines for trachoma control programs worldwide.
