Catnip
Catnip, scientifically known as Nepeta cataria, is a herb in the mint family that has a unique effect on many cats. It contains a chemical called nepetalactone, which binds to receptors in a cat's nose and triggers a temporary, euphoric response—making cats appear excited, playful, or relaxed. Not all cats are affected; sensitivity is hereditary. Catnip is safe and often used in toys and plants to stimulate indoor cats. Its effects typically last about 10-15 minutes, followed by a short period of disinterest before the cycle can repeat.
