Casts
A cast is a special medical device used to immobilize a broken or damaged bone, allowing it to heal properly. Typically made of materials like plaster or fiberglass, a cast surrounds the affected area, such as a limb, to prevent movement that could worsen the injury. By keeping the bones or tissues still, the cast helps ensure proper alignment and healing. It is usually applied during a visit to the doctor and remains in place until the bone has sufficiently healed, which can take several weeks. Proper care of the cast includes keeping it dry and avoiding excessive pressure.
