Caste War of Yucatan

The Caste War of Yucatán (1847–1901) was a conflict in Mexico involving the indigenous Maya people and the European-descended landowners and government. Indigenous Maya sought independence and better rights amid economic hardship and discrimination. The war involved violent clashes, with Maya rebels capturing large areas and establishing their own rule in some regions. It was fueled by social inequality, land disputes, and cultural suppression. Although the government eventually regained control, the conflict highlighted longstanding issues of racial and social injustice, and it significantly impacted the region's development and indigenous rights.
